A better bet is to just buy a laptop, and better yet, don't buy an Apple laptop. For the price point there is NO advantage to this thing except 'maybe' portability and the cool factor for a few weeks. You can buy a comparable superior laptop at each price point that won't have the limitations this has. And if for some reason you really need 3G, you can get a stick to solve the problem. Of course if you have money to burn, go for it, but don't be surprised when they release a new one each year and the new OS upgrade slows your older version down to a crawl, exactly like what has happened to the iPhones.

You don't need to incur a recurring monthly charge with the 3G models - all three Canadian providers offer service on a month-by-month basis. This can be useful for travelling, especially since you're not tied to any specific provider. In foreign countries, you should be able to get local service - again on a month-by-month basis - and not incur roaming charges.

The other feature of the 3G models that is seldom mentioned is the GPS/compass - wherever you go, you'll know exactly where you are (as long as you still have battery life, of course!). Again, something the traveler would find useful.
