Ford F-150 | $19,999-$53,899
Like most full-size trucks, Ford’s F-series features a wide range of models with two or four doors, rear or all-wheel drive, various box lengths and hundreds of features. “If you’re willing to pay the price, you can option an F-150 up to the same level as a luxury car,” says Mohamed Bouchama of Car Help Canada.
The latest generation of the F-150 features Ford’s new 3.5-litre EcoBoost engine, which promises class-leading horsepower and fuel efficiency.
Automotive journalist Howard J. Elmer calls the new engine “a great innovation” and says the F-150 also boasts the roomiest cab of our picks. Phil Edmonston, author of the Lemon-Aid series of car buying guides, notes some past concerns with the powertrain and braking, but says that the best-selling Ford truck offers a lot to buyers in terms of sheer value.
The Verdict: GM may build its trucks “like a rock” and Dodge may be “Ram tough,” but our panel gives the nod to Ford’s F-150 as the country’s best pickup. With a wide range of models, proven reliability and generous dealer discounts, our gurus say it’s no wonder the F-150 drives circles around the competition when it comes to sales.
