Japanese automakers have been trying to crack the lucrative North American truck market for years, and the Tundra is Toyota’s attempt at a full-size pickup.

Safety is excellent on all crash tests, but Edmonston says the Tundra “has more glitches than goodies.” He does like the new and improved V6 engine, pointing out that it’s stronger and more fuel-efficient than ever, but he suggests that Toyota should probably spend more time focused on the truck’s “hazardous powertrain and shake, rattle, and roll suspension.”

Elmer is far kinder, suggesting the full-size truck “is now on par, body-wise, capacity-wise and power-wise, with the traditional Big Three.” Bouchama also likes the Tundra, but concedes that it is pricey and has only one engine option. Sales figures are far below the North American makes.
