Instant millionaires
An Alberta couple who never had a honeymoon just won $45M playing Lotto 6/49. It’s safe to say they’re about to take the trip of a lifetime.
Current issue:
- A Lethbridge, Alta. couple recently won a $45.6-million Lotto 6/49 jackpot. It’s the third largest jackpot in the lottery’s history. Winners Duane and Joanne Thompson, now 57 and 53, never had a honeymoon. They plan to go somewhere “special” and take the grand kids to Disney World.
- Strike Debt, an offshoot of the Occupy movement, is using donation money to forgive consumer debt among the 99%. Read more about this random act of kindness of at canadianbusiness.com.
- Average consumer prices held steady in October as a rise in the cost of food was offset by a dip in the price of gas, Statistics Canada said Friday. Overall, inflation came in at 1.2% for the month.
- Finance Minister Jim Flaherty gave a business crowd a preview of his upcoming federal budget and promised no new tax hikes or “risky spending schemes.”

Ahh, not MoneySense as well, when will media stop gloryifying the lottery. If people really knew how small their chances of winning was I doubt it would be as popular. But between the frequent commercials and media coverage of every winner it's no surprise that many people misjudge their chance of winning.
The example I use is to imagine correctly guessing a single second in time over the past 11 months, that is roughly equal to a persons chance of winning the Lotto Max (one in 28,633,528).
Most people that win the lottery end up blowing it all anyway; they aren't educated about how to responsibly spend. I would never buy a lottery ticket, although I think spending a few dollars on it every week for entertainment isn't neccessarily that damaging, as long as people are realistic that they very likely won't win.
