Justin Bieber looks to promote smart spending among teens with new prepaid debit card.

- Canadian pop star Justin Bieber is promoting a new prepaid debit card in the U.S. called SpendSmart by card issuer BillMyParents. The card is being touted as a financially responsible way to share the convenience of debit with minors all while keeping a lid on spending. But as with most prepaid cards, the SpendSmart debit cards comes with monthly, loading and inactivity fees not to mention $1.50 per withdrawl charges.
- Canada’s housing market continues to cool, new data suggests. CREA reported Tuesday that the number of new listings slipped, prices moderated and the number of homes sold fell 17.4% in December from a year earlier.
- The majority of Canadians would alike to invest more but say they just can’t afford it. Scotiabank’s annual survey found that 64% of those polled cited affordability as an obstacle for them to invest in their RRSPs by the March 1 contribution deadline. The number is higher than in previous years.
