TORONTO – The Apple Pay mobile payment system is adding several major Canadian partners, including at least two of the big banks.
Royal Bank (TSX:RY) and CIBC (TSX:CM) say they’ll accept Visa and MasterCard credit card payments through compatible Apple devices starting today and Bank of Montreal (TSX:BMO) says the feature is “coming soon.”
Apple Pay is also available to users with Interac debit cards issued by RBC and CIBC.
Interac says it’s working to bring Apple Pay to debit cards issued by all Canada’s biggest banks, including Scotiabank (TSX:BNS) and TD (TSX:TD).
Apple’s tap-and-pay system was officially launched in Canada last November but without support from the big banks.
American Express was Apple Pay’s original credit card partner in Canada along with several major retailers.
