Canada Savings Bond rates are ridiculously low

The Canadian government recently announced rates for its Canada Savings Bonds–and they’re offering just 0.65%, says Jonathan Chevreau of the Financial Post. So for keeping $1,000 in a bond until November 1, 2011, you’d get just $6.50 interest. Less liquid Canada Premium Bonds are offering just 1.1%
Mostly likely, this meager return would be eaten up by inflation, as well as taxes, if it was held outside an RRSP or TFSA.
