Travellers hit by hefty taxes

Chicago, NYC and Boston have highest travellers' taxes.
A study by the National Business Travel Association reports that travellers face hefty car rental, hotel and meal taxes when visiting 50 top U.S. travel destinations. The average increased cost for visitors is 56% above the regular rate of sales tax, and in the worst cases, they pay 144% more tax.
The report argues this raises the cost for conventions and other business travel, despite the fact that the tax is used for purposes unrelated to the service provided. Cities with the highest traveller taxes were Chicago, New York City and Boston.
