If you’re shopping for a mattress, remember that a bigger price tag doesn’t guarantee a better sleep. Just ask Ed Perratore of Consumer Reports. He’s tested hundreds of mattresses and developed a guide for buyers: air beds are best for back-sleepers, innerspring beds are better for side-sleepers, and memory foam works well for couples. In any case, you’ll need to spend between $725 and $1,225 for a good bed. Pay less and you’ll get sub-standard material and craftsmanship. Pay more and you’re just paying for the brand name. And always wait for a sale—no one pays full price.

  1. To clarify: Are you saying the MSRP should be $725.00-$1,250.00, or what should actually be spent after the consistent 40-50% off promotions?
