Memorable for all the wrong reasons
A study conducted by VISA found that Canadian households will spend an average of $508 on prom, down from $804 last year. Parents are also forking over less money to their party-bound kids, covering 76% of costs, compared to last year’s 81%. The findings suggest kids will have to do more with less.
Eighteen-year-old Allison Medeiros, who had her prom earlier this month, budgeted $500 for her special night. Instead, the Whitby, Ont. teen ended up spending more than $700, shelling out more than $500 on the dress alone. “I bought my dress but then I needed this, I needed that. It really just snowballed,” she said.
Beyond the usual expenses (the dress, tux rental, tickets, hair and makeup) factor in these other expenses before settling on a budget.
