Graduate with less debt!
University is expensive, but it helps that you can get a tax credit on tuition and books: 15% of the total amount spent in a year. Even better, you can carry this credit forward indefinitely, though it must be used in the first year that you have tax payable. Up to $5,000 can also be transferred to a parent so that they can claim those expenses on their own taxes. While the Liberals have axed the textbook credit, they can be carried forward from before 2017 and are claimable in later years.
The bottom line: Spend $5,000 on books and tuition and get $750 back.
