More than 75% of Canadians are able to put a price tag on their clutter, according to results from an Ipsos Reid survey of over 1,000 people. How much are Canadians holding on to? One-in-10 Canadians polled say they’re storing clutter with a collective value of more than $1,000.

More than two thirds of those surveyed say they’re bothered by their clutter. Only four in ten Canadians say they’ve never had an argument because of their mess, and one in three say they forget that they even own an item if it’s put away in a closet or basement.

So why aren’t more Canadians liquidating their closets? “I spent a lot of money on an item,” is an excuse that Kijiji spokesperson Jaclyn Ray often hears. “That it is not a good reason to hold on,” she says.
