The Globe and Mail has a brief but handy guide to ducking some of the hit of the HST. In brief:
- Don’t buy coffee for your friends. Coffee purchases under $4 are HST-exempt.
- Go to the U.S for services and pay with our near-parity dollars.
- Read e-books. You still have to pay HST, but they’re cheaper.
Might have to quibble with number two—not only does it mean spending money out-of-country, but is it really worth the travel time, and cost of gas/transport into the U.S.?
Regardless, nice advice, and there must be more. We’ll be on the lookout.
