ST. JOHN’S, N.L. – A student group in Newfoundland and Labrador is welcoming the elimination of provincial student loans.
Travis Perry of the Canadian Federation of Students says the move is a step in the right direction.
As of August 1st, provincial students loans were replaced with up-front needs-based grants.
Perry says that’s something students have wanted for a long time.
He says removing that debt load from students, even by a small amount, will pay off in the long run.
