The right amount
The question of whether to give your hairdresser, mail delivery person, babysitter and other regular service personel a little extra during the holiday season is a personal one and often depends on whether you feel they go out of their way to treat you like a valued customer all year long. While tips are appreciated they are not mandatory, according to Jacqueline Whitmore, an internationally-recognized etiquette expert, author and founder of The Protocol School of Palm Beach. Whitmore suggests giving what you can, opting for a hand-written thank you note if your budget is truly limited, and hand delivering all gifts before Dec. 25 if possible.
