Homeowners can now earn Aeroplan points for making monthly mortgage payments through Chexy. Members earn 1 Aeroplan point per $1 paid toward their mortgage.
Chexy is synonymous with rewarding Canadians for everyday purchases, so why shouldn’t homeowners be rewarded for one of their biggest expenses? Chexy recently announced that homeowners can earn reward points for making mortgage payments.
After signing up, you’ll earn 1 Aeroplan point for every $1 you spend on your mortgage. Since renewing mortgage payments have grown by an average of $375 a month this year alone, the reward points can pile up fast.
Let’s say you pay $3,000 every month toward your mortgage. If you’ve joined Chexy and added your mortgage to the account, your $3,000 mortgage payment will earn you 3,000 Aeroplan points every month that you continue to make payments. That’s 36,000 Aeroplan points a year, assuming your mortgage doesn’t change.
If your mortgage goes up and you’re paying more, your rewards increase, too.
If you’re trying to reach Aeroplan elite status, you’ll also earn 1 Status Qualifying Credit for every 5 Aeroplan points you earn, up to a maximum of 25,000 SQC earned in a single year.
Chexy charges a 1.75% fee on each payment you make through the platform. For a $3,000 mortgage, the fee equals $52.50. Keep in mind that this fee comes out of the same chequing account you use to pay your mortgage. Ensure you have enough funds in it to cover the mortgage and Chexy’s fee.
Using our example, 3,000 Aeroplan points at $52.50 means each point essentially costs you 1.7 cents. If you buy Aeroplan points from the Aeroplan store, you’ll pay $75 for 2,000 points, or 3.7 cents each. The Chexy fee might seem significant, but it’s a great way to earn Aeroplan points for less.
Chexy works with just about every Canadian mortgage lender. If you want to participate, you don’t have to refinance, change lenders, or switch banks. Your mortgage terms and conditions won’t change, and your payment date will even stay the same.
Here’s what you’ll need to do if you want to sign up for Chexy’s mortgage rewards program.
Log into your existing Chexy account, or sign up if you don’t have one. Select your bank from the list of account options and choose the chequing account you already use to pay your mortgage. Then, add your Aeroplan reward number.
Confirm your mortgage details, specifically the account number and mortgage payment amount. Then, give your lender the Chexy account details to pull from.
Chexy pulls the mortgage payment plus the 1.75% fee from the chequing account you provided and pays your lender on your original mortgage payment date. Once the payment is processed, the reward Aeroplan points will hit your account within 60 days.
Those who sign up before September 30, 2026 will enjoy a hefty welcome bonus. Add your Aeroplan number to your Chexy account and complete your first payment to get 1,000 bonus points. Then, you’ll continue to earn 125 bonus points per qualifying payment on up to 4 payments a month (up to 500 points monthly or 6,000 points over 12 months).
If you’re an Aeroplan member with a mortgage, participating in Chexy rewards is a no brainer. You already have to make mortgage payments, so why not get travel rewards for your efforts? And, if you’re on the fence, remember that paying Chexy’s small fee is still a better deal than buying Aeroplan points.
